BIOGRAPHY

Born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, Michael Anthony Ladd was the fifth of seven siblings. After much moving up and down the east coast in a military family, the Ladds settled in Texas City, Texas, where Michael started drawing in art class.

Michael graduated in 1980 and was awarded a small scholarship after placing first in a local art contest. He enlisted in the Marine Corps instead, but continued to draw portraits for Marines until his military duties became too much to continue in art.

He pursued art again in 1996 while attending the University of Maryland University College part time, and expanded his art studies into media such as pen and ink, pastels, conte crayon, tempera, charcoal, scratchboard, watercolor, oil and acrylic. He also taught Art 110 as a teacher's assistant at the University.

Michael retired from the Marine Corps in 2002 after 22 years, and now holds a B.S. degree with a major in Computer Studies and Art as a secondary. He currently resides in Waldorf, Maryland, teaches Naval Science at a high school in another county, and actively pursues his passion-art.

				I am extremely confident that a positive direction is already set for me. This energy has moved me in directions that I have never traveled, but my deep emotion for art takes me anyway. So as I travel in unknown directions, with no set style, I let life take me there. I will follow my path-no one else's. But wherever that might be, get there I will… This is my life-and my passion.
